Floyd Mayweather is one of the most successful boxers of his generation. According to Wikipedia: “He is a five-division world champion, who has won eight world titles and the Lineal championship in three different weight classes.” He’s also 43-0 with only a single split decision.
He’s known as a master tactician and to the chagrin of some a “defensive” fighter. The basis for his strategy is counterpunching - he reacts before the other person has a chance to compensate. Not everyone likes to watch his fights, but the point he’ll usually raise, is that he’s 43-0.
So what’s the point? It always pays to have a strategy grounded in good fundamentals, but being able to react to your opponent before it’s too late can make the difference between being Floyd Mayweather and Michael Spinks.
Also, stay out of prison.
